I haven't posted anything on my blog lately and for that, I apologize.
My absence, however, was by no means voluntary. Over the past few months I've been dealing with severe inflammation in both of my eyes which was brought on by a nasty little eye disorder called Uveitis. This eye disorder isn't a new affliction. I've was diagnosed in my mid-thirties and for several years now have seen a Uveitis specialist located out-of-state on a semi-regular basis.
Like most people with this type of disorder, I have to deal with nasty
flare up's (inflammation in the eye) from time to time and medication
(although costly) is absolutely necessary to prevent blindness.
Periodic visits to see the doctor, overnight hotel stays, and various medications to treat the symptoms have been quite costly and time consuming. For instance, the latest eye drop to treat my brand of Uveitis set me back over $140 and it always seems to cost a small fortune each time I have a flare-up!
With Uveitis, the degree and severity of inflammation varies per each flare-up and swelling within the eye can occur in the front, middle, or back of the eye. Uveitis can also affect both eyes at the same time. Then there is panuveitis (which I have) that encompasses all three, meaning the whole uveal tract is affected and this causes a serious threat to vision if not treated.
Eye pain, headaches, nausea, and severe double vision are just a few of the symptoms that go along with this Panuveitis and this latest flare-up has been, by far, the absolute worst I've had in a very long while. It left me unable to drive, go out at night, or blog for well over a month and that was a real downer.
Thankfully, a small, albeit expensive (VERY expensive as I have no prescription coverage!) bottle of steroid drops called Dourezol, have quelled most of the swelling. My vision now is nearly back to normal (YAY!!) and I can finally get back to doing the things I sometimes take for granted, like writing a new blog post!
Now that I'm able to see again, I will be posting another fun giveaway on my blog later on this afternoon so keep your eyes peeled :)
I know I don't appreciate my eyes enough. I'm grateful that I can see well with glasses. Glad that your eyes are better.
